Data Centre Air Conditioning

Adequate and reliable cooling is essential to the operation of any data centre, computer room or server room. After the IT load, it is the biggest user of energy. For this reason, efficient data centre air conditioning is a key element in creating an energy-efficient data centre. Finding the right data centre air conditioning system for your data centre will depend upon various factors such as power density and the availability of space for the cooling plant.

About Data Centre Air Conditioning

The design and installation of air conditioning is critical to the data centre environment, as it controls both the temperature and the humidity of the air. The cooling system needs to be filtered to the level of cleanliness required and provide fresh air for any occupants, to ensure efficiency and reliability throughout the site.

Data centre’s require a sustainable air conditioning system as they can use a high percentage of the overall power consumption. The most common way of achieving this is with floor standing air handling units known as CRAC units, designed to run 24/7/365.

Why Choose Future-tech?

Whatever your circumstances, we will find the right solution for your needs. In fact, Future-tech has pioneered a number of energy saving schemes for data centre air conditioning. Systems we have installed include:

  • Full fresh air free cooling

  • Water to air free cooling

  • Enclosed hot aisles

  • Enclosed cold aisles

  • Elevated operating temperatures

  • Evaporative humidification/cooling

These are a combination of the most efficient installations e.g. enclosed hot aisle to elevate return temperatures with a fresh air or water-to-air free cooling system. Also, both from the energy efficiency aspect and for reliability, it is important that the air conditioning installed is designed for use in an IT environment. The basic requirements of a reliable and energy efficient data centre air conditioning system include:

  • High SHR

  • EC fans

  • Electronic expansion valves

  • Good filtration

  • Control of relative humidity

  • Designed to operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
