Future-tech were awarded a contract with London Borough of Newham to design and build a new computer room.
THE BRIEF
London Borough of Newham was in the midst of a 10-year, £27 million IT systems upgrade, including blade servers, storage area network technology and a rolling four-year refresh of all desktop and laptop hardware. Key to the project was a state-of-the-art, modular, high-density data centre valued in the region of £400,000.
CHALLENGES AND CONSTRAINTS
When Newham were looking for a new high-tech state of the art modular equipment room, one of the challenges it set its contractors was to incorporate the solution within a pre-existing shell structure on a concrete base which used to be the site of an old cow shed. Future-tech was more than up to the challenge.
THE FUTURE-TECH SOLUTION
Future-tech’s turn-key solution saw the company design, build and equip the computer room with a unique air conditioning system to support the Council’s new blade servers, as well as providing electrical services, generator, fire systems, and environmental monitoring systems including door access and CCTV. The contract also included site supervision, project management, design and engineering, health & safety, operations and maintenance manuals, testing and compliance certificates.
London Borough of Newham now have a very flexible, modular computer suite to support the delivery of IT services, not only to staff but also to the public as part of the e-Government initiative. Their computer room is housed within old tin sheds, which is very restricted space capable of supporting them for the next 10 years as they continue to expand their range of IT services.
Many relationships with suppliers are done on a contract, what I would say is the relationship with Future-tech is done on the spirit of the agreement. The team are first class
