Cambridge University Hospitals are thanking all their staff, partners and volunteers who worked during the Covid pandemic with a Covid Star award.

In the shape of the Maltese Cross, the Covid Star award was specially designed to create a lasting way to thank workers and volunteers for their professionalism, dedication, courage and overwhelming kindness, playing a vital role in the nation’s response during this exceptional time.

Each medal is handmade in Birmingham by specialist jewellers, Thomas Fattorini Ltd, who hold royal warrant to craft insignia and honours for Her Majesty the Queen.

Amongst the 13,500 staff to receive this prestigious recognition, the hospital has chosen to include two Future-tech engineers for their key contribution to the continued delivery of services by the hospital to the public.

Awards have been given to Martin Saban (Senior Service Engineer), and Antoni Di Vincenzo (Service Engineer / Site Supervisor). Overcoming all the difficulties associated with the period, Martin and Antoni jointly set up crucial infrastructure monitoring, implementing a Building Management System (BMS), in several remote comms rooms across the hospital campus.

Antoni also routinely attended site to carry out scheduled maintenance and supervise third party Planned Preventative Maintenance activities (PPM) throughout the pandemic. This ensured the smooth running and continued operation of all critical systems throughout the hospital, which are dependent on the power infrastructure.
